What it is

Conventional microneedling, explained.

Microneedling — also known as collagen induction therapy — uses a device with very fine needles to create thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin's surface. Your skin responds by repairing those channels, which encourages new collagen and can gradually refine texture, soften the look of shallow acne scarring and improve overall glow.

Conventional microneedling works through the needles alone. There is no added heat or energy, which keeps the treatment straightforward and suits clients whose main goals are texture, tone and radiance.

Compared with RF microneedling

Conventional microneedling creates controlled micro-channels on its own. It is a good fit for overall texture, dullness and early textural concerns.

RF microneedling adds radiofrequency heat delivered through the needle tips into the deeper dermis. It is usually discussed when the goals include skin laxity along the jawline or neck, or deeper acne scarring.

Neither is automatically better. Your provider recommends one after seeing your skin and hearing what you want to change. If scarring is your main concern, our acne scar treatment page explains how the options compare.

Suitability

Starting with a consultation.

Before any treatment, we look at your skin type, the concerns you want to address, your medications, recent sun exposure and any recent skin treatments. Active breakouts, cold sores or irritated skin may mean treatment is postponed until the skin is calm; our skin care facials can help at that stage.

If microneedling isn't the right fit, your provider will explain why and talk through other options.

Preparation & recovery

Before and after your appointment.

Before. Share your medications, sun exposure and recent treatments at your consultation so your provider can confirm the timing. Arrive with clean skin; numbing cream is applied at the clinic.

After. Redness and mild sensitivity are common for a short time afterwards. Follow the aftercare your provider gives you, protect your skin from the sun and avoid makeup for the period they recommend.

Planning a course. Collagen builds gradually, so a series of sessions is usually discussed rather than a single visit. Your provider sets the number and spacing of sessions and reviews progress as you go. PDRN or exosome serums can be added to a session if they suit your plan.

Questions

Microneedling questions, answered.

What is the difference between microneedling and RF microneedling?

Conventional microneedling creates controlled micro-channels with fine needles alone. RF microneedling adds radiofrequency heat through the needle tips into the deeper dermis and is usually discussed for laxity or deeper scarring. Your provider recommends one at your consultation.

Does microneedling hurt?

A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment. Most clients describe the sensation as pressure with some pinpricks.

How many microneedling sessions will I need?

Collagen builds gradually, so a series of sessions is usually discussed. Your provider sets the number and spacing after assessing your skin.

How much does microneedling cost?

Current microneedling prices, including packages and PDRN or exosome add-ons, are listed on our pricing page. Your provider confirms your plan at your consultation.

Can microneedling help acne scars?

It can help soften shallow textural scarring over a course of sessions. Deeper scars may be better suited to RF microneedling or CO₂ laser. Your provider will assess your scars in person.
