Breakouts, marks and scars are different.

Active acne is ongoing inflammation. It is usually addressed first, because treating scars while breakouts continue can irritate the skin. Our skin care facials, including acne facials, can help at this stage.

Discoloration is the flat pink, red or brown marking that can follow a breakout. It changes the skin's colour rather than its surface.

Textural scarring sits in the skin's structure: indented or uneven areas that catch the light. This is where collagen-building treatments are usually discussed.

How we evaluate

What your provider looks at.

At your consultation we look at the type and depth of your scars, where they are, your skin type and tone, whether acne is still active, and how much downtime you can plan for. We also review medications and recent treatments.

Not every treatment suits every scar or skin type. Your provider will explain which options make sense for you, and which don't.

Treatment options

Three approaches, chosen for your skin.

Conventional microneedling creates controlled micro-channels to encourage collagen. Microneedling for acne scars is often discussed for shallower textural scarring and overall texture, with a short recovery.

RF microneedling adds radiofrequency heat beneath the surface. It is often discussed for deeper scarring, and is an option your provider may consider for a wider range of skin tones.

Fractional CO₂ laser is the acne scar laser treatment option: it resurfaces the skin and heats the dermis below, which can soften the edges of textured scars. It involves more downtime, and it is not right for every skin type.

Recovery & progress

Different recoveries, one follow-up approach.

Recovery depends on the treatment. Microneedling and RF microneedling usually involve short-lived redness. CO₂ resurfacing involves a longer period of visible healing that you plan around. Your provider explains what to expect before you book.

Scar improvement happens gradually as collagen remodels, so plans are usually built as a course of sessions. We review your skin at each visit and adjust the plan based on how it responds. Results vary from person to person.

Questions

Acne scar questions, answered.

What is the best treatment for acne scars?

It depends on the type and depth of your scars, your skin type and how much downtime you can plan for. GoWell offers conventional microneedling, RF microneedling and fractional CO₂ laser, and your provider recommends an option after assessing your skin in person.

Can you treat acne scars while I still have breakouts?

Active acne is usually addressed first, because treating scars while breakouts continue can irritate the skin. Your provider will talk you through the right order.

Is microneedling or laser better for acne scars?

Each suits different situations. Microneedling and RF microneedling usually involve shorter recovery, while CO₂ resurfacing involves more downtime. Not every option suits every skin type, so your provider will explain which fits you.

How many sessions do acne scars need?

Scar improvement is gradual, so a course of sessions is usually discussed. Your provider sets the number and spacing and reviews progress at each visit.

How much does acne scar treatment cost?

It depends on the treatment and area. Current prices are listed on our pricing page, and your provider confirms your plan at your consultation.
